No. The GitHub repo is more of a learning project than the actual paid Taby product. It is there so people can learn electronics, ESP32 basics, firmware flashing, wiring, 3D printing, and how a small desk robot works. It uses the same general idea, but it is a simpler DIY build. The paid Taby is the finished product: ready-made hardware, the polished desktop app, local AI/productivity features, updates, and the full out-of-the-box experience.

Yes. Tasks, habits, notes, and day history stay on your computer. There are no accounts or cloud sync required. Anonymous product analytics may be used, but not your actual personal data.

Taby Digital works on macOS and Windows. Linux support is available as a beta AppImage.

Taby uses USB-C for power. It can connect to your computer over USB-C or Bluetooth. Battery support is coming as an add-on, because shipping batteries depends on country rules.

If Taby is powered on but not connected to the desktop app, it is mostly the little screen and personality layer. It can show its face and built-in animations, but it will not know your tasks, timers, reminders, AI chat, or day context. Those smart features come from the desktop app. So the hardware is not meant to be a full standalone AI assistant by itself.

No. Taby does not have to be physically plugged into your Mac the whole time. It gets power through USB-C, but that power can come from your Mac, a wall adapter, a monitor, or another USB power source. For the app connection, Taby can talk to your computer over USB-C or Bluetooth. You only need the desktop app connected when you want the smart features: tasks, timers, reminders, AI, focus tools, and reactions from your computer.

Taby uses a magnet. You stick a small steel plate to your monitor bezel, then Taby snaps onto it. You can also place the plate on a stand, shelf, or desk if you do not want it on the screen.
